About Timestamped.io
- This project provides a free service leveraging the Bitcoin SV blockchain to timestamp files. By doing so, it ensures data integrity and delivers undeniable proof of existence at a specific point in time. The process, known as timestamping, records data on an immutable database. We offer this service free of charge to promote the use of blockchain technology beyond payments, encouraging adoption by those outside the Bitcoin SV ecosystem.

The service consists of three main parts:
Timestamp: This feature allows you to timestamp a file of any format. For proof of ownership or at least access to the file at the time of timestamping, it is highly recommended to sign the file’s hash and include the signature in the transaction. This not only timestamps the file but also provides strong evidence linking the transaction to you
Verify: Use this feature to confirm that a file’s proof of existence (specifically, its SHA-256 hash) has been recorded in a specific transaction. Simply provide the file and its associated transaction ID to complete the verification. You also have the option to sign the hash, creating a strong assertion of ownership over the data.
Download: This feature allows you to download the raw data of the transaction along with the proof. Once your transaction is confirmed, it is recommended to download the transaction data and its Merkle path. These provide the necessary evidence to verify the file’s existence in the future without relying on any specific third party, requiring only access to the block headers. This is crucial because, in the future, it’s likely that sources serving raw transaction data with no spendable outputs may no longer be available.
-
Notes:
1. Your files will not leave your device at any point, as the hash of the file will be calculated on your device.
2. We do not store any of your personal information.
3. It is highly recommended to sign the file’s hash and store the signature in the transaction as well (either using the semi-automatic method or by manually adding a signature in the metadata section). This signature can act as proof of authorship, providing a strong argument for ownership or authorship of the data.
